Short circuit, insulation breakdown or earth leakage
Symptom guide
Why does my AC trip the MCB?
An AC can trip an MCB because of a short or earth fault, damaged wiring, moisture, loose connections, fan or compressor trouble, failed capacitor or electronics, excessive current, or an unsuitable protective circuit. Do not keep resetting it. Leave the AC off and have both the appliance and relevant supply checked safely.
Understand the symptom
AC Tripping MCB.
Start with evidence.
Tell us whether tripping happens immediately, when the outdoor unit starts, after several minutes, during rain or after cleaning. Also note whether only the AC breaker trips or a larger household protective device operates.

Several faults can
look the same.
This list is general guidance. The actual cause is confirmed only after the AC is inspected.
Loose, overheated or damaged connection
Moisture in electrical parts
Fan, compressor, capacitor or PCB fault
Supply, breaker sizing or circuit condition requiring electrical review
Safe first checks
What you can do
without opening the AC.
- Turn the AC switch off and leave the breaker off after a repeated trip
- Unplug only if the plug is cool, dry and safely reachable
- Note the exact stage and weather when tripping occurs
- Arrange a qualified electrical review if the circuit or distribution board is involved
What a visit may check
Establish when protection operates
Immediate and delayed trips point to different test paths.
Check appliance and accessible circuit
Electrical isolation, wiring and connected AC components are tested within the technician’s scope.
Coordinate supply work if needed
A building-circuit issue may require a qualified electrician separate from AC component repair.
Direct answers
AC Tripping MCB,
explained clearly.
Use these answers to prepare useful information for diagnosis—not to open or repair the unit yourself.
Is it safe to reset the MCB once?
If there was no burning, moisture or visible damage, a normal single reset may show whether the event was temporary. If it trips again, stop and arrange inspection.
Does a tripping AC always mean the compressor is bad?
No. Wiring, moisture, fan, capacitor, PCB, supply and protection issues can also trip the circuit.
Do I need an electrician or AC technician?
The symptom may cross both scopes. Start with safe isolation and describe which protective device trips; AC diagnosis and a qualified electrical check may both be required.
These symptoms and causes are general information, not a remote diagnosis. Do not open electrical or refrigerant panels. Parts, refrigerant work, price and repair time are confirmed only after inspection.
