Loose cover, bracket, fastener or cabinet fitting
Symptom guide
Why is my AC making a new or loud noise?
New AC noise can come from a loose panel or mounting, dirt, fan imbalance, an object touching the blower, drain movement, pipe vibration, worn moving parts or abnormal compressor and electrical behaviour. Record the sound from a safe distance and switch the AC off if it is metallic, grinding, accompanied by burning smell or rapidly worsening.
Understand the symptom
AC Making Noise.
Start with evidence.
Describe whether the sound is rattling, clicking, buzzing, squealing, grinding, gurgling or popping; say which unit it comes from and at what stage. A short video is often more helpful than a general description.

Several faults can
look the same.
This list is general guidance. The actual cause is confirmed only after the AC is inspected.
Dirty or unbalanced indoor blower or outdoor fan
Pipe, drain or panel vibration against a surface
Worn motor, bearing or fan component
Electrical buzzing, relay chatter or abnormal compressor sound
Safe first checks
What you can do
without opening the AC.
- Turn the AC off and look for a loose external item without opening panels
- Move curtains or objects away from the air path
- Record when the noise begins and whether it changes with fan speed
- Send a short video showing which unit is noisy
What a visit may check
Reproduce the sound
The operating stage, fan speed and source area are identified.
Check mounting and moving parts
Accessible panels, fans, supports and nearby pipework are inspected for contact or looseness.
Separate mechanical and electrical causes
The next repair is based on the sound source rather than lubricating or tightening parts at random.
Direct answers
AC Making Noise,
explained clearly.
Use these answers to prepare useful information for diagnosis—not to open or repair the unit yourself.
Are clicking sounds always a fault?
A few control or expansion sounds can be normal. Repeated loud clicking, failure to start or a new pattern should be checked, especially with a code or electrical symptom.
Can a dirty AC become noisy?
Yes. Dirt can unbalance airflow or moving parts, but looseness and wear can sound similar. Cleaning should follow inspection.
Why does the pipe or wall vibrate?
Pipe contact, bracket condition, routing, insulation or equipment vibration may transmit sound. The mounting and operating source both need review.
These symptoms and causes are general information, not a remote diagnosis. Do not open electrical or refrigerant panels. Parts, refrigerant work, price and repair time are confirmed only after inspection.
